Unix & Linux System Engineer

To support both the administrative environment and management of the switching platform, our client employs a growing number of Linux and UNIX based servers. Together with other members of the technical team the system engineers take responsibility for the implementation and maintenance of this server park and are able to plan and think proactively. Because of the high visibility of our client there will be a strong focus on security of these systems. Although configuration of the systems will be according to guidelines of our client security officer, input from the system engineers, based on their knowledge and experience, on these guidelines will be expected.
Next to the basic system management, the system engineers are expected to be able to script and program to automate and support management tasks and provide IT support to end-users in the organisation.

• At least three years of experience with one or more of the following:
• Linux and/or UNIX server management
• Hardware (installation, maintenance)
• Software (installation, maintenance)
• Security (host-based firewalls, OS fortification, VPN)
• User management (LDAP)
• Typical Open Source server applications (Postfix, Postgres, Samba, Amanda, Apache, etc.)
• Experience with (Linux KVM) virtualization
• Configuration automation (Puppet)
• Perl scripting skills (monitoring, task automation)
• Strong skills in both spoken and written English.
• Ability to think independently and proactively and share ideas within a team.
• Good documentation and communication skills.
